Lakers being told not to dribble near Avery Bradley at practice

The rave reviews for Avery Bradley can be viewed in several ways and not all of those would reflect well on the Lakers.

Bradley has been wowing the Los Angeles Lakers in the first week of training camp. More than anyone else on the team, Bradley’s been name-checked a few times by players and coaches, according to reporters on the scene in El Segundo. And the legend of Training Camp Avery Bradley grew on Tuesday, with a quote from Anthony Davis that head coach Frank Vogel has told people guarded by Bradley not to dribble near him.

“It’s to the point where coach said ‘if you’ve got the ball (near him), just pass it.’ He’s very special on the defensive end,” said Anthony Davis, Bradley’s new Lakers teammate.

Rajon Rondo has also reportedly asked Bradley to guard him every practice. Obviously, Bradley’s strong play could be seen as a great sign for the Lakers, or it could also be an indictment of the Lakers backcourt. While the team focused on outside shooting, some pointed to a lack of playmakers on the roster as an issue. But all of that can only be speculation at this point. Only time will tell if Bradley’s play is an indicator that he will play above expectations to be an All-Defense level player again or if the Lakers guard problems are worse than previously thought.
