Lakers assistant Hollins will not go to Orlando due to health concerns

One of the biggest changes the Lakers made the last offseason in remaking their team was making sure that head coach Frank Vogel had an experienced team of assistants alongside him. But the Lakers will be without their most experienced assistant coach when they head to the Walt Disney World campus to conclude the season.

Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported on Friday that Lakers assistant coach, former Nets and Grizzlies head coach, Lionel Hollins would not join the team in Orlando after the coach was “red-flagged” out of health concerns.

Hollins is part of a coaching staff that has gotten strong reviews from LeBron James over the course of the season, with the star player crediting the staff for their gameplans and approach to every game. Obviously, Hollins can still consult the team from afar, but it’s different than being in the locker room with the other coaches.

Most teams have to make decisions about who to take with them in their travelling party, but unfortunately for Hollins, the doctors made that decision for him.
