Lakers and Ty Lue set to meet for second interview Wednesday

Things appear to be picking up for the Lakers in their search for a new head coach.

After Rob Pelinka conducted interviews last week with Monty Williams and Ty Lue, he is also expected to meet with Miami assistant Juwan Howard. But a second meeting for Lue is already set for Wednesday, according to The Athletic’s Joe Vardon.

As reported by the L.A. Times on Tuesday, the second round of head coaching interviews is expected to include Lakers controlling owner Jeanie Buss.

While Lue has a lot of history with LeBron James, several reports indicate that his history may not be an advantage. Reports indicated that some within the Lakers were concerned that hiring Lue would be seen as giving LeBron and Rich Paul too much control.

And were that to eventually be the guiding principle for the Lakers hiring a new coach as LeBron enters his 17th season in the NBA, it would truly be a waste of the gift they received when he signed last July.
