Lakers and Ty Lue at an ‘impasse’ in contract negotiations

Just when you thought the Los Angeles Lakers were ready to move forward into the future with a new head coach, the Real Lakers of Los Angeles added yet odd twist to this now five week ordeal.

After nearly a week of reporting that the Lakers and former Cavaliers head coach Ty Lue were moving towards a deal, it appears that neither side is ready to make a deal. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers and Lue are currently at an ‘impasse’ in negotiations and a deal has yet to get done.

With Monty Williams taking the job with the Phoenix Suns on Friday, the selection of Lue was essentially made for them. And that’s without even considering that Lue reportedly made a stronger appeal to the Lakers sensibilities and traditions.

But apparently that wasn’t enough. And it’s unclear why this is. Evidently, both sides believe they have a lot of leverage. Also, it can’t be undersold that the Lakers have a lot of different voices at the top making decisions. That could add to some confusion for the front office.

As for how LeBron feels about this, he will undoubtedly continue to put forward a smiling face in support of the team that he signed with last year for at least three seasons. But to see the Lakers playing with their food like this, unable to get a deal done for a championship coach, has to be a little unsettling.

Even for a man like LeBron who has had drama follow him and his teams, it has to be approaching the point where the Lakers way of doing business is starting to wear on him.
