Lake Macquarie teenager in Sydney hospital after Bali scooter fall

Better days: Redhead man Lawson Rankin, 18, with his father, Phil.

A Redhead teenager who was rushed to a Bali hospital in a critical condition after he fell from a motorised scooter more than a week ago has been brought back to Australia.

Lawson Rankin, 18, was at the popular holiday destination celebrating finishing school at St Francis Xavier's College when he was injured.

He suffered a brain haemorrhage and had 20 stitches in his head.

Fighting: Lawson Rankin is in a critical condition at Bali International Medical Centre.

The Newcastle Heraldreported on Saturday that Lawson had sped up to try to catch a local driver who had snatched his friend's phone.

After he fell, his friends found him inside a concrete drain filled with water.

Lawson had travel insurance, but did not hold an international licence to ride a motorbike so his medical costs are not covered.

Hard hit: What's left of Lawson's helmet after the accident.

A Go Fund Me page set up to raise money to bring him home has raised more than $210,000.

A message posted on the page on Sunday said Lawson had arrived in Australia from Bali, but remained unconscious and in a critical condition in the intensive care unit at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney.
