Lake Macquarie police officer bitten during arrest

POLICE officers have allegedly been assaulted after they responded to a domestic violence incident.

Lake Macquarie acting inspector Shane Briscoe said officers attended a Lake Road Argenton house around 10pm on Saturday, where a man, 24, had allegedly assaulted a woman, 19. Inspector Briscoe said he was arrested and a struggle ensued.

One officer was elbowed in the throat and the other was bitten on the inner right thigh. The man was taken for a mental health assessment and is expected to be charged.
