Lake Mac pursuit called off after driver crosses onto wrong side of road

A four-wheel-drive has managed to evade police after crossing onto the wrong side of the road during at pursuit at Lake Macquarie.

Lake Macquarie police stopped the grey Ford Territory about 10.15pm on Wednesday on the Pacific Highway at Blacksmiths for a random breath test, but the vehicle then took off towards Marks Point.

Police lost sight of the vehicle.

About five minutes later, the Police Dog Unit located the vehicle on Croudace Bay Road at Valentine and initiated a pursuit.

The car went into Warners Bay towards the Esplanade. The pursuit lasted for several minutes but was called off when the Territory crossed onto the wrong side of the road.

No arrests have been made, inquiries are continuing to locate the vehicle and the driver.
