LaGuardia Airport runway reopens after crash site cleared

  • A plane collided with a fire truck at New York's LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night, resulting in the deaths of two pilots and injuries to approximately 40 people, effectively shutting down the airport’s second-largest runway.
  • LaGuardia's runway reopened Thursday morning after repairs and inspections, with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirming it meets Federal Aviation Administration safety regulations.
  • The incident involved an Air Canada regional jet carrying 76 people, which struck an airport fire truck that had been cleared to cross the runway to respond to a separate incident.
  • The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is continuing its investigation, with the damaged fire truck moved to a secure location and the plane expected to be placed in a hangar.
  • Despite the runway reopening, LaGuardia Airport continues to experience significant flight delays and cancellations, with over 300 flights canceled in the past 24 hours.
