Bristol-born singer Nadine Gingell garnered sufficient support to crowdfund her debut release with her Nina Simone-inspired vocals. However, the album’s formulaic blend of blues, country and soul, and instrument-heavy arrangements do little to complement Gingell’s mellow tone. She’s lost behind a sea of brass on Waiting for You, but holds her own when suitably balanced with the live band on Don’t Make Him Wait. Her voice is at its most confident on stripped-back arrangements Those Late Nights and 6am. Bass-driven finale Get You on Your Own is the most engaging song, but would better suit an earlier slot in the album to break up the monotony of similar-sounding tracks.
