Lady Louise teaches Princess Charlotte sweet skill during royal family holiday in Balmoral

Every year the royals pack their bags and head to Balmoral for their annual summer holiday.

The annual trip gives them a chance to spend quality time together away from the public eye, catching up while taking a break from royal duties and school.

The trip, which is taking place without the late Prince Philip for the first time this year, also gives family members who might not ordinarily spend time together a chance to bond.

Two of these are reportedly Lady Louise Windsor, the 17-year-old daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex, and Princess Charlotte.

Lady Louise, who is thought to be the Queen's favourite grandchild, is said to love spending time at the royal family's Scottish retreat - and even tried to teach Charlotte, who is 11 years younger than her, a new skill while there on a previous visit, reports the Express.

An insider told The Sun in 2019: "The Queen loves the fact that Louise and James [Louise's younger brother] relish their time at Balmoral, and she has become particularly close to Louise, who seems to have become her favourite grandchild, closely followed by James.

“Louise also endeared herself to everyone by looking after William and Kate’s children when they were up here.

“Louise loves drawing and sketching and was very patiently trying to get Charlotte to do pictures of rabbits and deer."

This week has been a big week for Louise as on Tuesday she would have received her AS-level results like countless other teenagers up and down the country.

She attends a private school in Ascot and has been studying for her AS-levels, which are the first year of an A-level qualification.

According to Hello!, she has been studying AS-Levels in the subjects of English, history, politics and drama.

However, it is unlikely that Buckingham Palace will release her grades and last year her GCSE results also remained private.

When she returns to school in September, Louise will continue her studies to complete full A-levels - although most students tend to drop one subject after the first year.

Louise's proud mum Sophie has previously talked about her daughter's schooling saying that she hopes she will go to university.

She said: "I wouldn’t force her, but if she wants to. She’s quite clever."
