Lady Leshurr boosted by call from Matt Lucas before Dancing On Ice performance

Dancing On Ice hopeful Lady Leshurr knows where to turn when the chips are down… her idol Matt Lucas.

The rapper – who freestyled the Little Britain star’s baked potato song with him on Jonathan Ross – was stunned to get a call from Matt ahead of tonight’s ITV show.

The comic gave her performance tips for her routine based on the film Jurassic Park.

He told her: “You just have to commit to it, enjoy being someone else. And if you fall, make it an iconic fall.”

Lady Leshurr, 32, said getting the video call was “amazing”.

After appearing with him on the Jonathan Ross Show in November to rap Thank You Baked Potato together, she told how Matt, 46, was “the reason I’m the way I am”.

The Great British Bake Off host told her on their FaceTime call: “I’m really proud of you. I’ve been watching – I see you grow every week.”

Speaking to Angela Scanlon on her Thanks A Million podcast, the singer said: “I grew up on Matt, I wanted to be like him.

“It’s mad meeting someone you’re inspired by.” The show has been cut short due to injuries and Covid, with the final now just two weeks away.

Jason Donovan, 52, Billie Faiers, 31, and Denise van Outen, 46, were all crocked, while Emmerdale’s Joe-Warren Plant, 18, and comedian Rufus Hound, 41, both caught coronavirus.

Lady Leshurr, real name Melesha O’Garro, admitted: “It’s nerve-racking. Entering the show, I just thought, ‘Yay, I’m going to learn how to skate’. I never thought about the injuries.”
