Lady Gaga wears the $30 million Audrey Hepburn 'Tiffany Diamond' on the Oscars red carpet

Lady Gaga stepped out on the red carpet at tonight's Oscars wearing one of the most valuable diamonds in the world.

Gaga wore the 'Tiffany diamond' with a long black gown and gloves designed by Alexander McQueen.

The 128.54-carat diamond from Tiffany & Co. is a piece imbued with cinematic history.

In fact, Gaga revealed on Instagram, "The last person to wear this was Audrey Hepburn while promoting Breakfast at Tiffany's."

Audrey Hepburn wore it back in 1962 when she posed for the poster art for Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Gaga also provided additional backstory in her post, adding that Tiffany "offered to go into their vault" to secure the piece for her and she called it "an honor to wear it".

Gaga has gone big with her jewellery this awards season. Earlier this year, for the Golden Globes, the actress and singer teamed her purple Valentino Couture dress with $5 million worth of diamonds.

The Tiffany diamond has only been worn twice before. Mrs Sheldon Whitehouse first wore it to the 1957 Tiffany Ball in Newport, Rhode Island. This is the first time the diamond has been worn on the red carpet.

The diamond has an estimated worth of $30 million (£23m).
