Lady Gaga’s father has revealed he voted for Donald Trump days after the president made disparaging remarks about his daughter.
Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, found herself at the centre of Trump’s scorn after publicly backing Joe Biden in the US presidential election.
“Lady Gaga, oh, I could tell you a few stories about her," Trump said, speaking at a rally in Scranton, Pennsylvania, adding: “Lady Gaga is not too good.”
On Monday (2 November), the “Born This Way” singer joined Democratic nominee Biden on his campaign trail in Pittsburgh.
“Vote like your life depends on it, or vote like your children’s lives depends on it, because they do,” she told the crowd.
The singer then explicitly referenced the infamous leak of a 2005 video in which Trump is heard boasting that “when you’re a star… you can do anything… grab ’em by the p***y”.
“To all the women, to all the men with daughters and sisters and mothers – everybody, no matter how you identify, now is your chance to vote against Donald Trump, a man who believes his fame gives him the right to grab one of your daughters, or sisters, or mothers or wives by any part of their bodies,” she added.
In a series of videos urging her fans to vote, Lady Gaga said that a vote for her “friend” Biden was a vote “for America”.
Despite all this, Lady Gaga’s father – Joe Germanotta – revealed his support for Trump, writing: “@realDonaldTrump 2020.”
He followed up the post with another tweet that read: “You may have noticed my political and spiritual beliefs are different. Liberty and freedom of choice would not be political.”
Lady Gaga’s fans were surprised by the tweets, with one replying: “He literally bullied your daughter yesterday.”
Both Trump and Biden have won key states in what has become a tighter election race than polls had suggested.
