Lady Gaga dismisses Bradley Cooper romance rumours after intense Oscars duet sparked speculation

Lady Gaga has dismissed rumours of a romance between her and Bradley Cooper following their duet at the Oscars.

The A Star Is Born co-stars performed an intense version of the film's hit song Shallow at the 91st Academy Awards on Sunday, sparking speculation over their relationship.

However, during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday, the pop star denied there was anything going on between her and Cooper.

She said: "First of all, social media quite frankly is the toilet of the Internet and what it has done to pop culture is abysmal.

"And people saw love, and guess what, that's what we wanted you to see. This is a love song, the movie is a love story."

Cooper sang with his arm around Gaga who nuzzled into his neck as they performed at a grand piano on stage at the Dolby Theatre during the awards.

Fans and celebrities have since taken to social media to comment on the pair’s “chemistry”.

Some were left feeling “uncomfortable” for Cooper’s girlfriend Irina Shayk who was in the front row for the performance.

Setting the record straight: Lady Gaga explained the duet on Twitter

Spice Girl Mel B was among viewers who said she was left feeling “uncomfortable” for Cooper’s girlfriend, who he shares a one-year-old daughter with.

“There’s a woman’s code,” she said. “Hopefully it’s only professional this.”

Piers Morgan was also among stars to question their friendship, tweeting: “Are we 100% certain these two are just good friends...?”

Gaga’s latest comments came after she described Cooper as a “true friend and artistic genius” as she reflected on their hotly-discussed duet.

She wrote on Instagram: “Nothing could be more special than sharing this moment at the Oscars with a true friend and artistic genius.”

Gaga and her musical collaborators Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt went on to pick up the Best Original Song Oscar for the track.
