Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande release empowering new pop track 'Rain on Me'

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande have released their hugely anticipated song “Rain on Me”, a week after the collaboration was announced.

The track is set to a pulsing, house-influenced beat that seems to be heavily influenced by Stardust’s “Music Sounds Better With You” and includes the lyrics: “It’s coming down on me/ Water like misery/ It’s coming down on me/ I’m ready, rain on me.”

Gaga spoke about the song in a recent interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Beats Radio, explaining that its mention of rain falling down is an analogy for her tears, but also “a metaphor for the amount of drinking that I was doing to numb myself”.

She also noted that fans will see Grande do things she’s “never done before” in the music video, which helped establish a friendship between the two artists.

“When she came into the studio, I was still crying and she was not,” Gaga said. “And she was like, ‘You’re going to be OK. Call me; here’s my number.’

“And she was so persistent. She would try over and over again to be friends with me. And I was too ashamed to hang out with her because I didn’t want to project all of this negativity onto something that was healing and so beautiful. And eventually she called me on my s***. She said, ‘You’re hiding.’ And I was ... and then this friendship blossomed.”

“Rain on Me” will be included on Gaga’s forthcoming album, Chromatica, which is out on 29 May.
