Ladbaby fans crash website after launch of memory chair

A handmade furniture company based in Beeston has experienced the 'Ladbaby effect' as their website crashed just eight minutes after the couple posted about a memory chair on social media. The chair created by Luxury Living was a Mother's Day gift from Mark Hoyle to his wife Roxanne and features baby grows from the couples children.

The chair was a collaboration between the local couple and Luxury Living and offers customers a way to commemorate their loved ones. The chairs can be upholstered using fabric from clothing such as baby grows, hoodies or even wedding dresses.

The company was created by co-founders Adam Payne and Ryan Beales from Clifton. Although the company was only established last year, they have experienced a huge increase in interest after the chair was featured in a video on Ladbaby's Facebook and Instagram.

Mr Payne said: "The chair went crazy on social media and got over a billion views in the last eight hours. We are being bombarded with messages and sales from across the world including America."

The team at Luxury Living have been working with Ladbaby for a while after the couple contacted the company to see if there was anything that they could do with old baby grows they had kept.

Mr Payne said: "Mark contacted us for one of the chairs for Mother's Day as Roxanne had loads of baby grows that were sentimental to her. He thought they would make a nice memory chair so we sat down to design it and see if it worked."

He added: "It's gone down a treat on social media sites especially Instagram which did over 200 thousand likes. We are getting orders from people who have lost a loved one through things like gang violence. We can put the smell of the loved ones onto the chair through pockets in the back by adding aftershave or perfume."

The website registered 15,000 clicks in just eight minutes following the launch then went onto crash after an hour as Ladbaby fans flocked to the site. Adam highlighted that £10 of each chair sale, which retails for £549, will be donated to local food banks. LadBaby fans get 10% discount by quoting 'Ladbaby10' at check out.

Sales have been pouring in through the website with some orders coming as far as Australia or the US. Adam says the company have had some incredible requests from people about creating chairs of their own.

He said: "Things have gone a little bit crazy this morning as everyone has loved ones that they have lost, especially now with Covid. We had a woman this morning ask about us transferring her wedding dress onto a chair. We had another person whose son had died after he was stabbed at sixteen, she who wanted to see what we could do."

Ladbaby fans were hugely supportive of the launch with over 10,000 messages of support on Facebook alone.

One person commented : "What an absolutely lovely and wonderful thing to do Mark, you have definitely earned yourself some brownie points from Rox for this present. Happy Mothers Day."

Another remarked: "This just tops the lot, everything you have ever done for Rox!! Even I cried! The most thoughtful gift ever. Something to cherish for years to come."

Mark Hoyle, the man behind his LadBaby alter ego, is not only a Youtuber, but also a graphic designer and author. The Nottingham based star and self-named 'sausage roll king' shot to fame after creating novelty songs with his wife, Roxanne.
