LadBaby congratulated by Ed Sheeran over record-breaking fourth Christmas number one

Singer Ed Sheeran has hailed Nottingham's LadBaby as 'incredible' after the YouTube stars and charity campaigners scooped the UK's Christmas number one single for a record-breaking fourth year in a row.

Mark Hoyle and wife Roxanne broke a long-held record by becoming the first act ever to score four consecutive Christmas number ones, overtaking the Spice Girls and The Beatles.

Sausage Rolls for Everyone, a collaboration with Ed Sheeran and Sir Elton John, went to the top on Friday (December 24).

LadBaby's annual sausage roll-themed singles raise money for foodbank charity The Trussell Trust.

LadBaby were congratulated by pop star Sheeran, who described the pair's achievements as 'incredible'.

Speaking on BBC Radio 1's Official Chart show, Sheeran said: "Mark, Rox, congratulations on breaking a world record and getting the fourth consecutive Christmas number one in a row, you've now surpassed The Beetles - this is fantastic.

"You do such amazing, amazing stuff for charity and none of it is not seen by everyone.

"I know that sometimes stuff online can be written and it can get you down. But the whole country loves you so much and you do such amazing things.

"Christmas number one is literally the hardest thing to do and you've done four in a row and it's incredible."

Mark replied: "That's amazing, I can't thank him or Elton enough for helping us do it this year and we're trying to spread the power of sausage rolls, spread some positivity and raise as much money as we can."

Sheeran had come second with his song Merry Christmas featuring Sir Elton John, both of whom joined LadBaby to remix the song into winning track Sausage Rolls For Everyone.

After the, Mark said: "Thank you so much, unbelievable.

"It's just unbelievable I can't believe the Great British public have backed us again, you know never rule out a sausage roll at Christmas.

"It's amazing and I can't wait to find out how much this has raised for The Trussell Trust and for the foodbanks of the UK."

When asked on his recent appearance with Ed Sheeran at a food bank, he said: "That's the reason we've done any of these songs and the reason why we've come back this year.

"14 million people in the UK are living below the poverty line and 4.5 million of those are children, that was the reason we come back."

He was then asked how the collaboration with the singer came about.

Mark said: "It was about six months ago Ed sent me their song so in the middle of summer I was feeling all festive and listening to Merry Christmas.

"Me and Rox, my other half, we had the very hard task of 'how is it you re-write a song written by the world's best artists' so we had about four weeks where we re-wrote the whole thing.

"We went down to London and spent the day with Ed and he loved it, I think he changed maybe two lines and we just tried to get as many Christmas, sausage roll, sort of funny moments in the song as possible."
