Lad jailed after he was caught in a stolen BMW told a judge he now wants to ‘turn his life around’

A lad has been jailed after he was caught in a stolen BMW - he told a judge he now wants to ‘turn his life around’.

Ryan Loose, 26, was spotted by patrolling officers in the £26,000 car just hours after it had been nicked in a house burglary.

Manchester Crown Court heard that the '19 registration plate BMW and a £30,000 VW Golf had both been stolen in November last year.

Loose, of Wythenshawe, had been involved in a high speed police pursuit earlier in the year - he has since been jailed for that offence.

At the time he committed these offences, he was on licence having been released half way through a seven-year sentence for aggravated burglary.

He has now told a court that ‘enough is enough’ and he wants to ‘move on with his life’.

Loose entered guilty pleas to two offences of handling stolen goods and was jailed for 14 months.

Prosecutor Nicholas Clarke told the court that on the morning of November 22 last year, two owners noticed their cars were no longer outside their homes, namely a 19-plate BMW and a 19-plate VW Golf.

They had both been stolen during house burglaries, he said.

Unknown criminals had crept into their houses whilst they slept and stole the keys to the cars.

He said they were targeted because of the expensive vehicles.

“A few hours later at 1pm, both cars were seen by officers on patrol who were on the lookout for them,” Mr Clarke said.

“By this stage the registration plate of the VW Golf had been changed from the personalised plate.

“There were two people in the cars, Loose was in the BMW.

“The other man escaped in the Golf, but Loose was detained.”

He had been released from a 7 year sentence and was on licence when he was caught by police, the court heard.

Loose was said to have 21 previous convictions for 35 offences, including dangerous driving for which he was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in March this year.

His defence counsel Rebecca Penfold told the court Loose is of the view that ‘enough is enough’ and he ‘wants to move on with his life’.

“He wants to get a job and start a family,” she said.

“He wants to work towards his parole hearing later this year to allow him further time with the probation service, who will be able to assist him with his difficulties with his thinking skills.”

Recorder Imran Shafi QC said: “I am to sentence you for handling stolen goods, both being expensive vehicles.

“I am told you want to change your life - you will either be in prison for the rest of your life or make something of it.

“Mr Loose, it would be nice not to see you again in this court. I hope you do want to try and turn your life around.”

Loose, of HMP Forest Bank, was jailed for a further 14 months.
