Labour held on to a seat in a by-election called after the death of a well respected North Tyneside councillor.
Ray Glindon, who was the cabinet member for finance, died in April following a five year battle with prostate cancer.
Coun Glindon worked right up to his death at the age of 74, and presented what would be his final budget for the authority in February.

He started working for the council as an electrician in 1974, working his way up to building manager, a role he stayed in until he retired in 2001.
Coun Glindon would then spend three years helping his beloved Labour Party campaign before being elected as councillor in 2004.
A by-election to fill the vacancy in his Camperdown ward was held on Thursday, with Tracy Hallway successfully holding the seat for the Labour.
Afterwards, the teacher, who works at Mortimer Community College in South Shields said she hoped to by able to continue the "amazing" work of Coun Glindon, who she described as an "incredible man".

Coun Hallway said that receiving her ward's vote of confidence was a "humbling experience".
She added: "People absolutely still have trust in Labour. I will fight for what they [the Camperdown] community wants; cleaner streets, the environment.
"It's about giving something back and making a difference.
"I hope I can follow his amazing work - he was an incredible man."
Coun Glindon's wife, North Tyneside MP Mary Glindon, tweeted her support for the newly elected councillor.
She wrote: "Congratulations to Camperdown ward's new Labour councillor, Tracy Hallway. I'm delighted with your excellent result. I know Ray will be smiling down on you and be so pleased that you will, like him, be working hard for, and with, the people of Camperdown."
