John Denham, the shadow business secretary, will lead this review; his advisers will include Lord Sugar, the entrepreneur and TV personality, Stephen Alambritis of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Robert Blackburn of the Small Business Research Centre, Nigel Doughty of private equity fund Doughty Hanson and Co, and Graham Jones of the Institute of Patentees.
Tom Clark writes:
Labour's business support has all but disappeared, a fact underlined by recent news that Alastair Campbell is now one of the party's biggest individual donors. This business team is tasked with giving the party something fresh to say. But can the party hope to profit from outdoing a centre-right coalition in the scramble for business support on issues such as regulation and tax, and if so how? Or would it do better to concentrate on areas like skills training and transport, where public expenditure cuts threaten investments that support enterprise?
