Labour Party suspends ward in Sefton after 'intimidation and harassment' allegations

The Labour Party has suspended a ward in south Sefton following allegations of "intimidation and harassment."

Labour's National Executive Committe (NEC) has suspended Ford ward, which covers Litherland and Bootle, following a number of complaints.

The complaints concern the running of the ward and activity of Ford Ward members.

A letter sent out by party bosses earlier this month revealed the NEC has now suspended the ward following complaints surrounding "intimidation and harassment."

An investigation into the matter has been launched.

The suspension means party members will not be able to attend constituency or local government committee meetings.

It also means the ward cannot select its candidate for the forthcoming May municipal elections.

The suspension also means that Ford Ward delegates may not seek any office in the Labour Party.

The Labour Party will launch an investigation into the matter in the New Year.

The Labour Party declined to comment on what it described as an "internal matter."

The ECHO has approached Sefton Council declined to comment.

Earlier this year Ford Ward members called on Labour leader Kier Starmer to resign following his decision to write a column for the S*n newspaper.
