A total of 183,541 applications have been made to the Labour Party to sign up as registered supporters with the right to vote in the upcoming leadership election over the past 48 hours, the party has said.
The two-day window in which people weer able to sign up as registered supporters – allowing them to vote for the new Labour leader, for a fee of £25 – began at 5pm on Monday, and closed 5pm Wednesday.
Non-members, along with anyone who joined the Labour Party after January 2016, had to register in order to cast a vote in the Labour leadership contest.
