Labour needs genuine Remain voice in Scotland or party will become electoral irrelevance

Politics is about numbers and it really isn’t that hard.

Some 62 per cent of Scots voted to Remain in the European Union, 48 per cent across the UK voted likewise.

Some 61 per cent of Labour-held constituencies voted Leave but against that, 65 per cent of Labour voters backed Remain and a growing number want a second vote.

At a UK level, though not at a Scottish one, there is an empty howl from voters who want some credible leadership to steer the country away from a reckless Brexit. There is room, plenty of room, for a Remain-leaning Labour party.

But Jeremy Corbyn is not concerned with the numbers. He is more interested in the irrelevant power struggle to control Labour’s national executive committee.

By dominating the NEC proceedings, as he hopes to today when it considers backing a second referendum, Corbyn can ensure the Labour party remains in the grip of the left and out of the middle ground of British politics for years to come.

You would think with the Tories on the ropes and divided on Brexit, raising the prospect of a second referendum would be the kind of merry hell Labour would want to unleash.

Brexit know-it-alls can earn £80 per hour to explain politics to confused Brits

Very soon, unless Labour finds a genuine Remain voice in Scotland, it will become an electoral irrelevance. Across the UK people will notice they are being let down by a leadership that does not recognise the open road to power.

Take that message to committee today, Richard Leonard, and stand up for Labour values and Labour voters in Scotland.

It takes a pretty sick, criminal mind to set dogs to bait badgers and savage wild deer for fun.

It takes a really stupid mind to record the crimes on your phone and computer to be found as evidence for investigators.

Dumbo “hunter” Sean Ward received a seven-month prison sentence after his despicable behaviour was exposed on his own sick videos.

The jail time is the right sentence and it should act as a deterrent to anyone else considering getting kicks out of this moronic behaviour.

Kez bows out

There is an inevitability about Former Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale to stand down as MSP.

Conspired against by colleagues to make her leadership impossible and then abandoned by the Labour leadership in her hour of legal need, Dugdale has raised her sights to another horizon.

In thanking her for her service, we can’t help but note that two years after she stood down as leader, her warmth and personality leave her more recognisable with the public than her replacement.
