- Labour MP Carolyn Harris lost eight stone using the weight-loss drug Mounjaro, going from 19 stone to 11 stone in a year.
- Ms Harris, who was a size 24 and is now a size 10, fears that a significant price increase for Mounjaro will make it unaffordable for many others who could benefit.
- Eli Lilly, the drug's manufacturer, is raising the list price by up to 170 per cent, meaning Ms Harris's monthly private prescription will increase from under £150 to £429.
- She has written to Health Secretary Wes Streeting, urging him to intervene and work with manufacturers to keep the drug affordable for patients and reduce pressure on NHS waiting lists.
- Despite the potential for Mounjaro to save the NHS millions by tackling obesity, less than half of English commissioning bodies are prescribing it on the NHS, where it is only available under strict criteria.
