Labour MP Jo Stevens hospitalised with Covid-19 after suffering symptoms "for a while"

Labour MP Jo Stevens has been hospitalised with coronavirus, her team has said.

The Cardiff Central MP had been "laying low" after she started displaying symptoms at the end of last month, Wales Online reports.

It comes after her team said on New Year's Eve that the 54-year-old shadow Culture Secretary had been suffering with Covid-19 "for a while".

On Saturday, her team tweeted: "Jo has asked us to let you know that she is being treated in hospital for Covid. Thanks for all your good wishes we will give an update when we can."

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer replied to the tweet, saying: "Get well soon Jo, a dear friend and colleague."

First Minister Mark Drakeford said: "All of our thoughts and best wishes are with Jo for a speedy recovery.

"Thank you to Jo's constituency team for continuing to support Cardiff Central constituents at this difficult time."

Anna McMorrin, MP for Cardiff North, said: "Sending lots of love for a speedy and strong recovery Jo."
