Labour MP David Lammy took to Twitter to reassure concerned - and confused - constituents who mixed him up with Lemmy, the Motorhead frontman, who died aged 70 on Monday.
The former mayoral candidate tweeted that he was “very much alive” after the singer and bassist’s death was announced on Tuesday morning - just two days after he received his cancer diagnosis.
Mr Lammy said: “Thank you for the concerned messages etc but I am very much alive. Condolences to Lemmy family and friends and fans.”
This is not the first time the Tottenham MP has been a victim of mistaken identity.
In May, his local newspaper the Tottenham and Wood Green Independent published an article about him online with the image of Julius Maada Bio, a Sierra Leone politician who staged a coup in 1996.
The newspaper quickly amended the story after Mr Lammy posted a screenshot of the article online with the words “if anyone knows who this guy is please let him know he's now the MP for Tottenham”.
