A TOP Labour minister has been slated for a cringeworthy campaign video inspired by Donald Trump.
Housing Secretary Steve Reed has drawn pelters for a video he shared on Twitter/X with the caption “build baby build”, a riff on the US president’s famous injunction to “drill baby drill”.
Complete with Maga-red baseball cap, Reed and Labour bag-carriers assembled to pose with flags for the social media stunt.
The video shows people queuing up to have Reed sign bits of paper branded “build baby build” and to take selfies with him.
Towards the end, we are given the point of view of one of those pieces of paper signed by Reed, who grins maniacally at the camera afterwards.

Social media users were quick to mock the video. One said: “What in the Maga is this. Politics in this country is embarrassing.”
Another added: “Sorry but queuing up to get the Housing Secretary’s scribble is deeply disturbing behaviour.”
One quipped: “Muppets new film trailer released.”
The National is obliged to point out that the whole stunt appears to have been done with the backing of Arden Strategies, failed Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy’s consultancy firm.
Murphy’s abilities in political strategy seem to have gone from strength to strength since he steered Labour to its worst General Election victory ever a decade ago.
