Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to address Unite conference in Ayr

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is heading for Ayrshire tomorrow (Sunday).

The leader of the opposition will address a major trade union event at Ayr Racecourse.

Unite Scotland has taken over the racecourse this weekend, with a number of heavyweight key speakers taking to the stage.

Corbyn is due to address delegates at 11am on Sunday.

Key speakers on Saturday include Scots Labour leader, Richard Leonard, and Len McCluskey, Unite's general secretary.

Speaking ahead of the event, Unite Scottish secretary, Pat Rafferty said: "Hundreds of delegates will attend our Policy Conference in Ayr this weekend.

"It’s clear that Scotland is at a critical juncture in our history with a general election potentially imminent.

"Job insecurity has significantly increased which has been aided and abetted by a dangerous Boris Johnson who is intent on sacrificing Scottish jobs, communities and trade in the pursuit of Brexit at any cost.

"As the country’s largest trade union, we will be setting the priorities of our membership helping to ensure that the concerns of working people are at the forefront of politics and industry in Scotland."
