Labour entering ‘second chapter’ following Rayner resignation

  • The Labour government is "moving forward with the strongest team" following Angela Rayner's resignation, according to newly appointed Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Darren Jones.
  • Ms Rayner resigned after admitting she failed to pay the correct stamp duty on her Hove flat.
  • Mr Jones said that Sir Keir Starmer's Cabinet has entered a "second chapter" focused on strengthening Downing Street's operation.
  • He added that the prime minister had already been considering a reshuffle, which was brought forward by Ms Rayner's departure.
