Welcome to the start of The Independent's live blog from the annual Labour Party Conference in Brighton.
This year's event is expected to be the largest ever after the party saw a surge in membership and a better-than-expected result in the snap general election in June.
Jeremy Corbyn will kick off the four-day event by addressing an eve-of-conference rally of party faithful on Saturday night, where he was expected to outline his vision that Labour is a 'government in waiting'.
It comes as a major shakeup of party rules was due to be approved at conference, handing more power to the left wing of the party and cementing Mr Corbyn's strengthened position as leader.
As well as the Labour leader's address later in the week, there will also be key speeches from senior MPs including Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell and Deputy Leader Tom Watson, while London Mayor Sadiq Khan is also expected to be given a last-minute slot after he was initially denied the chance to speak.
