Labour Conference 2021: Angela Rayner belts out Don’t Look Back in Anger at karaoke party

Sir Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner and Jonathan Ashworth ended the 2021 Labour Party Conference on a high note on Tuesday night.

The deputy leader of the opposition, who caused a stir earlier this week when she branded Conservatives ‘scum’, belted out ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ to hundreds of revellers at a karaoke party in Brighton.

She was also joined by shadow health secretary Mr Ashworth for a rendition of ‘You’re The One That I Want’ at the event, where singers were backed by a live band.

While the Labour leader did not take part in any singing, he did address guests who braved wind and torrential rain to pack into Brighton’s Revolution bar for the party, hosted by the Mirror newspaper.

He said seeing “everybody in person for the first time has been absolutely brilliant”.

He joked that the Labour MPs and staff packed into the bar should have “a fantastic night, have a really good time” but “don’t forget to get up before midday tomorrow so I can see you in the conference hall.”

The crowd, which also included Wes Streeting, Ed Miliband and Manchester mayor Andy Burnham, danced to renditions of Pulp’s Common People, Blur’s Parklife and iconic New Labour anthem Things Can Only Get Better by D:Ream.

Sir Keir will unveil his vision for the “future of our country” on Wednesday after taking on the Labour Left at the party’s annual rally.

He will seek to speak to the nation after days of bitter clashes at the Brighton conference over internal party reforms including to leadership election rules.
