Labour celebrate St George's Day one day early in unfortunate Twitter gaffe

It's the bank holiday weekend and most of us are enjoying some sun, booze, barbecues and time with the ones we love.

So perhaps you can sympathise with the Labour Party's Twitter team - who have accidentally celebrated St George's Day one day early.

The unfortunate gaffe was uploaded this morning only to be swiftly deleted when multiple Twitter users pointed it out.

The tweet said: "Happy St George's Day!

"With the next Labour government, we'll celebrate the patron saint with a bank holiday - and bank holidays for St Patrick, St David and St Andrew too."

St George's Day is on April 23. A Labour source confirmed the tweet was uploaded early by accident.

It's only the latest online gaffe by the two main parties in recent days.

Labour came under fire last week for posting a Happy Passover image which featured a Star of David, a wine chalice and a loaf of bread.

The Conservative Party has not been without controversy either, however.

Tory chairman Brandon Lewis sent out a bizarre Happy Easter e-mail, which after only a few words including "you might just enjoy the chocolate", spun round to shoehorn in references to local elections and bins.

It said: "When you're recycling your Easter egg boxes, remember that Conservative councils across the country recycle more than Labour ones.

"That's one more reason to vote Conservative on May 2."
