Labour calls for Polanski to face investigation over council tax claims

  • Labour Party chair Anna Turley has called for an investigation into Green Party leader Zack Polanski over allegations he failed to pay the correct council tax for his London houseboat.
  • Polanski initially claimed he only stayed on the houseboat 'occasionally' but later apologised for an 'unintentional mistake', admitting he lived there and is now taking steps to pay any council tax owed.
  • The complaint to the Greater London Assembly's monitoring officer questions whether Polanski breached the GLA Code of Conduct and the Nolan Principles of honesty, integrity, accountability, and openness.
  • Concerns have also been raised regarding whether Polanski attended or voted on relevant financial meetings since 2023 without declaring potential council tax arrears, as required by law.
  • This controversy follows Polanski's recent admission that he was wrong to previously describe himself as a spokesperson for the British Red Cross, leading to accusations of 'staggering hypocrisy' from Conservatives and Labour stating he 'cannot be trusted'.
