The Lake Tuggeranong foreshore would benefit from an almost $5 million upgrade under a re-elected Labor government.

The project would include a new playground, recreation facilities and improvements to accessibility and green space along the foreshore from Reed St South to Tuggeranong Town Park, at a cost of $4.75 million.

Environment Minister Mick Gentleman announced $2 million would also be invested to reduce algae blooms in Lake Tuggeranong.

"In government, we delivered a number of healthy waterways projects in the Tuggeranong catchment such as new raingardens, gross pollutant traps, algae treatments and floating wetlands," he said.

"Guided by expert advice, we will build more gross-pollutant traps and wetlands to clean and filter water as it flows through smaller creeks and waterways into the lake.

"ACT Labor is also reaffirming our commitment to local catchment groups and WaterWatch with $215,000 funding each year, along with $75,000 for the much-loved Frog Watch program."
