Labor name candidates for Port Stephens Council

STANDING: Giacomo Arnott, Leah Anderson and Jason Wells will contest the Port Stephens local government election, Labor has confirmed.

LABOR have confirmed Business Port Stephens president Leah Anderson will enter the mayoral race for the party in September's local government elections.

The well-known Port Stephens businesswoman has previously flagged her intention to stand at the poll.

She will form the Labor ticket with incumebnt councillor Giacomo Arnott, who will seek re-election in West Ward, while Medowie teacher Jason Wells will chase a berth in Central Ward.

Ms Anderson said she wanted to be mayor because "it's time for someone to put our community first".

"My pitch is really simple," she said.

"I believe in listening to local residents, I believe in supporting our incredible community, and I think it's time for Port Stephens Council to reconnect with our neighbourhoods and local families.

"This election will give us a real opportunity to shape the future of Port Stephens, and I want to lead that change, to make sure community is at the heart of it."

Mr Wells said he had lived in Medowie for 15 years.

"We all know that local infrastructure and services haven't kept up," he said.

"Right across Port Stephens, we need local representatives who will listen and support our communities."
