Labor increases lead over coalition: poll

New polling shows support for the Labor opposition has grown by one per cent since late November. (AAP)

Increased voter support for federal Labor has given it the largest two-party preferred lead over the coalition since the 2019 election.

Support for the opposition has grown by one percentage point to 56.5 since late November, new Roy Morgan polling shows.

This exceeds Labor's 55-45 lead over the Liberal-National coalition during the height of the Black Summer bushfires.

Meanwhile, support for government has fallen by one percentage point to 43.5.

If the upcoming federal election was held now, the poll predicts Labor would win with a margin similar to that won by Harold Holt in 1966.

Roy Morgan interviewed 2805 adults over two weekends in late November and early December.

Women favoured Labor over the coalition government 60.5 per cent to 39.5 per cent.

Primary support for Labor rose half a percentage point to 36, and dropped one percentage point to 34.5 for the coalition.

Labor's two-party preferred lead is strongest in South Australia (64.5 per cent) followed by Victoria (58.5 per cent), NSW (55.5 per cent) and Queensland (54.5 per cent).

NSW, Victoria and Queensland together contain 116 out of 151 federal seats.

Support for the Greens is up half a percentage point to 12.5 per cent, remains steady for One Nation at 3.5 per cent and sits at one per cent for the United Australia Party.
