FAQs
When is Labor Day?
Labor Day fell on Monday September 1, and as we now know, the Labor Day sales are continuing afterwards for a short time only, and they kicked off way more than a week before.
Should I buy on Labor Day or wait for Black Friday?
If you're shopping for tech or small appliances, it's usually worth waiting until Black Friday – prices tend to be better. That said, it's not a hard rule. If you spot a standout deal and verify it with a price history tool like Camel or Honey, it’s smart to grab it early and skip the Black Friday frenzy (and the risk of sell-outs).
As for outdoor furniture deals, some of the best discounts of the year happen now, as retailers clear summer stock around September – you likely won’t see better prices until next year.
The best mattresses are also heavily discounted during Black Friday, so it's a good time to invest in one of the best. But if your current mattress is affecting your sleep or causing pain, don’t wait for the sale — your comfort is worth more than a few extra dollars saved.
Which stores are open on Labor Day?
Most major retailers are open during their regular hours on Labor Day. Target typically opens from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., though hours can vary by location.
The same goes for Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Nordstrom. Walmart sticks to its standard schedule as well, opening from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Be sure to check your local store for any changes and remember you can shop online.
