La Vita's plans to open restaurant with roof terrace in Baillieston branded 'outright ridiculous'

One of Glasgow's favourite Italian restaurants is looking to open a major new site in the east of the city.

La Vita has submitted plans to open a new restaurant with a roof terrace in Baillieston.

Owners are looking to move into 175 Baillieston Road to create a restaurant, in-house bakery, hot food takeaway, function suite, roof terrace, and external seating.

Plans describe the site as 'in the middle of a local shopping and leisure hub' but their potential move has prompted objections from residents who have branded it 'outright ridiculous' and a 'gross invasion of privacy'.

The site is currently part of a Co-Op supermarket that had received permission to subdivide.

An application for the changes states that the new venture will employ 14 full-time staff and eight part-time staff with the takeaway employing three full-time and two part-time staff.

The function suite is described as a 'local community hub for celebrations and will be of a scale that is not generally found locally'.

Plans for the roof terrace, which will be open between 12pm and 10pm, have attracted objections from locals who fear it will impact on their privacy.

One resident has said they 'strenuously object' to the proposal on the grounds that it would be a 'gross invasion of their privacy'.

They add: "The proposed roof terrace is practically in my garden less than four feet from the boundary fence.

"The subsequent noise and invasion of privacy would be unacceptable in any condition. The security and safety of my family would be violated."

Another adds: "The planned roof terrace will look over my back garden and into my bedroom.

"The constant buzz from the neighbouring beer garden is bad enough but to have a planned roof garden is outright ridiculous."

The plans are due to go before Glasgow City Council.
