La Liga sent radical crisis solution as hotel boss pitches Canary Islands plan

A Tenerife hotel boss has told Spanish league chief that the competition should be completed in the Canary Islands.

ASHOTEL president Jorge Marichal has the head of the Spanish Federation José Luis Rubiales - a former Hamilton player - and the La Liga supremo Javier Tebas.

He has issued a letter to offer the Canary Islands as a venue for the remaining games, which would involve the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona descending on the popular holiday region.

Marichal that the insularity and remoteness of the Peninsula has been an isolation factor that has partially protected the Canary Islands from the spread of coronavirus.

He said: "We meet all the requirements for this moment that needs solutions.

"There is infrastructure and desire to enjoy this great sport.

"We pass on the idea to the Tourism Counsel and they have welcomed it.

"We understand that we have infrastructure and desire for the League to end in the Canary Islands. What we're trying to do is raise our hands to say here we are."

The Canaries is composed of seven islands have one of the lowest percentages in Spain due to the Coronavirus with 1762 cases and 91 deaths.

Marichal pointed to the Canaries as  being a world-class tourist destination, with more than 15 million people received in 2019 and insists hotels are well prepared to help the Spanish football league finish their season.

Tenerife’s stadium Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez and Las Palmas’ Estadio de Gran Canaria would be the main venues where the games could be played to complete the league. It is also rumoured that Lanzarote and Fuerteventura could be counted as extra possibilities although their main stadiums would need upgraded.

If the radical plan went ahead it would help clubs avoid massive financial losses in television revenue and a significant numbers of workers will get their jobs back.
