La Liga president wants Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to 'help grow' image after Lionel Messi admission

La Liga president Javier Tebas wants to attract the best players and managers to the Spanish top-flight - including Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Tebas has been in his current role since 2013, and has made no secret of his aim to rival the Premier League when it comes to the financial power that England's top league has.

Included in that is a desire to attract the best personalities to the league, with television rights and international interest higher where the entertainment is deemed better.

The latest Premier League domestic television deal was worth £5billion for seasons between 2019 and 2022. In the same period, La Liga was worth around £3.42bn, with a disparity in overseas rights further adding to the overall difference.

"We always want the best," Tebas said. "I want [Lionel] Messi in La Liga. Just as I want Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Cristiano [ Ronaldo ]... all of those would help us grow."

Cristiano Ronaldo departed Real Madrid for Juventus in 2018 in a deal worth around £90million.

Speculation surrounding Messi, meanwhile, is unlikely to go anywhere after the Argentinean made clear his desire to leave Barcelona in the summer, only to later perform a U-turn and decide to stay in Spain under Ronald Koeman.

Since then, Guardiola has signed a contract extension at Manchester City, who are Liverpool's biggest rivals for the Premier League title and who were deemed most likely to be able to afford Messi should he have left last summer.

"I remember I said [back in August] that Messi was not essential," Tebas added.

"We are working in the event that [Messi's departure] happens one day. Players are very important but they are not essential. Any league which manages itself based on what player it will add makes a mistake.

"Stars can help you in certain regions but in order to be global, you need to have a good product. We have created a unique product.

"We have already signed our audiovisual rights for the next four seasons and in none of those contracts does it state that we will be paid less if these players leave.

"But I insist, I would like Messi to continue many years here. He is the best football player in the history and my wish is for him to end his playing career in Spain."
