La Liga president Javier Tebas says he does not expect Mohamed Salah to move to Spain this summer.
Liverpool star Salah sparked speculation over his future in December when he admitted he did not know what his future plans held, hailing Real Madrid and Barcelona as two top clubs.
The 28-year-old later said he would be open to signing a new deal at Anfield, with two years left to run on his current contract, but reiterated that his future is in the hands of Liverpool instead of himself.
Whilst Tebas says he would love to see Salah in La Liga, he doubts it is a realistic prospect in the short-term.
Speaking on Egyptian TV station ON Time Sports (via Goal), Tebas talked up the size of La Liga in comparison to the Premier League when he was asked about the prospect of Salah moving to Spain.
Pointing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has hit Real Madrid and Barcelona financially, Tebas admitted it was unlikely that either club would be able to afford Salah in the short-term.
He said: "We are at the same level as the Premier League, the difference is the audience, they have a bigger audience in Europe and we have our huge base in the Middle and Far East.
"An arrival of Mohamed Salah in La Liga?
"With the current financial situation, it is very unlikely that Liverpool will sell Mohamed Salah or that a club will sign a big name this summer."
He added: "I definitely hope that he joins La Liga but I don’t expect big money transfers this summer."
