La Liga president Javier Tebas names three potential dates for resuming football season

La Liga president Javier Tebas has named three potential dates for resuming the football season after discussions with UEFA.

The Spanish league, like the Premier League, is suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak but the intention remains to finish the season when it is safe to do so.

Any restart of competitive action would have to take into account a period for players to build their fitness and well-being back up given they have been in their homes away from training grounds since the middle of March. Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne said recently that normally three to four weeks would be needed to ensure that there is not a glut of injuries when games resume.

UEFA have been working with the various leagues to try to find the best and most appropriate way to resume and complete matches in domestic and continental competitions.

Based on those negotiations, the head of the Spanish league has suggested dates at the end of May and the beginning and end of June as the "most probable" options moving forward.

"Of all the different scenarios we have been looking at with Uefa to go back to competing, the most probable ones are 28 May, 6 June or 28 June," Tebas said.

"We can't say an exact date. This will be given to us by the authorities in Spain. But we still have time to get back to training before that."
