La Liga consider switching Barcelona vs Real Madrid from Nou Camp to Bernabeu amid Catalonia unrest

La Liga are considering moving next week's El Clasico clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid from the Nou Camp to the Bernabeu amid the political unrest in Catalonia.

Barcelona has been the focal point for protests over the imprisonment of pro-independence political and cultural figures in the region.

Real are set to travel to Barca for the clash on October 26 - but it could yet be switched to the Spanish capital, report AS.

Nine Catalan political leaders were jailed for between nine and 13 years for their part in the controversial independence referendum in 2017.

And it has sparked a huge backlash with El Prat airport in Barcelona temporarily closed on Tuesday, grounding 100 flights.

Protestors and riot police were involved in running battles through airport terminals while government buildings across the city were also stormed.

Barca have already made contingency plans for this weekend's fixture at Eibar, taking a six-hour bus journey rather than a short flight.

If the match is switched to the Bernabeu, the return fixture on March 1 would be staged at the Nou Camp.

Pro-independence parties have planned a mass rally in Barcelona on October 26 - the day of the game - which has forced the authorities to consider the switch.
