La Liga chief has Jurgen Klopp wish as he plans for life without Lionel Messi

La Liga chief Javier Tebas wants to see Jurgen Klopp lured to Spain's top flight as he plots the league's expansion.

The German is among the greatest managers in the world and his recent success with Liverpool has only added to his CV.

La Liga may lose its greatest asset in Lionel Messi as his Barcelona future continues to hang in the balance.

The Catalan's loss may be the Premier League's gain with Manchester City seen as his most likely destination.

Tebas has seen several high profile names - both on the pitch and off it - leave La Liga over the past decade.

Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar have all sought new challenges elsewhere.

But the La Liga President always wants football's shining light to operate in Spain where possible and want to close the financial gap that exists between them and England's top flight.

"We always want the best," Tebas said. "I want [Lionel] Messi in La Liga. Just as I want Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Cristiano [  Ronaldo  ]... all of those would help us grow."

The latest domestic TV deals beginning in 2019 and ending in 2022 have seen the Premier League pocket £5bn while La Liga have earned £3.42bn.

And the La Liga chief is all too aware of the need to have big names in order to command the big fees.

"I remember I said [back in August] that Messi was not essential," Tebas continued.

"We are working in the event that [Messi's departure] happens one day. Players are very important but they are not essential. Any league which manages itself based on what player it will add makes a mistake.

"Stars can help you in certain regions but in order to be global, you need to have a good product. We have created a unique product.

"We have already signed our audiovisual rights for the next four seasons and in none of those contracts does it state that we will be paid less if these players leave.

"But I insist, I would like Messi to continue many years here. He is the best football player in the history and my wish is for him to end his playing career in Spain."
