A teenage L-plater will face court next month after he allegedly crashed a car while almost twice the legal blood-alcohol limit for fully licensed motorists.
According to police, the 18-year-old learner was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Lockyer Street at Adamstown about 2am on Saturday.
A roadside breath-test returned a positive result and the young man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station, where a breath analysis allegedly revealed a blood-alcohol reading of 0.092.
The legal blood-alcohol limit for fully licensed motorists is 0.05, but learners and P-platers are restricted to zero.
The L-plater's licence was immediately suspended, Newcastle police noted in a summary on social media on Monday. His passenger - a P-plater - was taken to John Hunter Hospital with a fractured arm.
The L-plater was charged with mid-range drink-driving and being a learner not accompanied by a fully licensed driver.
He will face Newcastle Local Court in April.
