L.J. Collier could get work in Seahawks bonus practice Monday

The Seattle Seahawks have been without their first-round draft pick, defensive end L.J. Collier, throughout the preseason. Sidelined early in camp with a rare ankle sprain, Collier could resume practice as soon as Monday.

“L.J. had a really good workout in the stadium here tonight, and it was really encouraging, really encouraging,” coach Pete Carroll said after the win over the Raiders. “We come back on Monday and have a practice, he might get some work out there. I’m a little bit hopeful here, a little bit optimistic, but he might get work in that practice, and we’ll see what that means.”

While Carroll is hopeful for Collier’s return next week, Seattle isn’t going to force him back onto the field too early.

“This is not the injury or the guy to rush,” Carroll continued. “He just hasn’t been with us enough, so to think he’s going to come in and save the day, I’m not doing that with him. We’ll get him well and make sure he’s well, but if we could get him back to practice, that would be really important for us. So we’ll see what happens.”

The Seahawks have a lot of work to do before Monday’s practice, cutting the roster down to 53 players and forming a 10-man practice squad.
