L’Christian ‘Blue’ Smith transfers from Ohio State to Cincinnati

Red-shirt freshman L’Christian ‘Blue’ Smith has transferred from Ohio State to Cincinnati. Smith was supposed to be a pivotal player in the Buckeyes dynamic offense this season by decided to enter the now infamous transfer portal.

Coming out of high school, the 6-foot-6 receiver was ranked the No. 3 receiver in the state of Ohio. He was a four-star recruit when he committed in 2017.

That said, Smith was red-shirted partially because of the immense competition at wide receiver which included Parris Campbell and Terry McLaurin, two receivers drafted in 2019.

He announced his intent to return home and play for the University of Cincinnati on Twitter yesterday.

This decision makes sense given the relationship that was most likely formed between Smith and the current UC head coach Luke Fickell. While Fickell did coach on the defensive side at OSU, his presence in Cincinnati probably played a role in Smith’s transfer.

Smith will be missed, but the OSU offense behind Justin Fields and a bevy of talented receivers should be just fine.
