L.A. Times mock has Seattle selecting tight end in first round of NFL draft

Most recent mocks have the Seahawks selecting either a pass rusher, defensive back or offensive lineman in the first round of the NFL draft. Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times has a slightly different twist on the player he projects to Seattle.

Farmer predicts the Seahawks select tight end Noah Fant out of Iowa with the No. 21 overall pick later this month.

Maybe the Patriots trade up into this spot to replace Rob Gronkowski, but the Seahawks are in clear need of a solid tight end,” Farmer writes.

The Seahawks drafted a tight end last year — Will Dissly of the University of Washington. With free-agent addition Ed Dickson still on the mend at the start of the season, Dissly saw significant action before he landed on injured reserve with a torn patellar tendon suffered in Week 4 against the Cardinals.

With Dissly still rehabbing this offseason, there’s a chance he won’t be ready until the start of training camp. But tight end isn’t exactly the Seahawks’ greatest position of need, especially in the first round, where Seattle is likely to trade back to acquire some missing picks.

The Seahawks do have other options at tight end, including another Fant — George, no relation — who caught the first pass of his career last season.
