The Los Angeles Department of Animal Services is cutting its adoption fees for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend.
The agency's Chatsworth, Van Nuys, Lincoln Heights, South L.A., San Pedro and Sawtelle shelters will cut their adoption fees in half for puppies, dogs and kittens Friday through Sunday. Adoption fees for cats will be waived. The discounted adoption fees are as follows:
Dogs (over 4 months old) � $51.00
Puppies (under 4 months old) � $75.00
Cats (over 4 months old) � $0.00
Kittens (under 4 months old) � $25.00
The fees cover vaccination, spay or neuter surgery and microchip. L.A. city residents will have to pay for an additional $20 license fee for dogs.
Animal services also offered the following guidance for current pet owners for the holiday season:
Turkey or chicken bones can hurt pets' digestive tracts.
Fatty foods can be hard for them to digest.
Some sweets contain ingredients that can poison pets.
Secure trash so pets can't access scraps and packaging.
When pets display sudden changes in behavior, depression, pain, vomiting or diarrhea, contact a veterinarian immediately.
Dogs and cats who get nervous around visitors should be placed in another room or in a crate with a toy.
Make sure pets don't leave the home as visitors enter or leave.
Make sure they have ID tags and microchips in case they get lost.
