Dec. 27--Los Angeles residents looking to discard their Christmas trees will have several options for making sure they are collected by city sanitation crews, Mayor Eric Garcetti said Friday.
Angelenos who have city trash pickup may cut up the trees and put the assorted parts into the green bin. City crews also will collect trees that are on the curb next to the green bin on the regularly scheduled trash day.
"Getting rid of a Christmas tree can be a hassle, and dried-out trees are a fire danger, so we want to make it easy and free for Angelenos to dispose of them," Garcetti said in a statement.
For those who do not have green bins, the city will set up tree dropoff centers for one day -- Jan. 4 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. -- in neighborhoods stretching from Watts to West Hills. Dropoffs may be made at the following locations:
